I feel like we have now entered the time of year that feels like someone is holding down the fast forward button on a remote, and you are trying to take note of every scene as it's zooming by. October tends to drag, in my opinion, but then once it's over everything kicks into high gear!
This October began in Key West, with celebrating and honoring the life of my dad by scattering his ashes on his 70th birthday! It was a fabulous girls' trip full of sun, laughter, and memories for life! I also spent time continuing to work on my house, organizing, moving furniture, and doing a lot of the tasks that come with a new home. My mom turned 65 this month, another milestone birthday to celebrate! Although we were not together in person, we celebrated early on vacation (several times!) and were together in spirit! My speech clinic hosted our annual fall festival, a fun time for all kids and families alike, and of course the month ended with Halloween and seeing so many cute costumes. While Halloween is far from my favorite holiday, I always enjoy watching kids exude so much joy and excitement related to any special event! My allergies kicked into full gear this month, reminding me that fall has indeed arrived in NC. Overall, it was a calm month, and much needed!
**My very talented resident artist! I've had the privilege of watching him grow since he was 5 and he never ceases to amaze me!!
I can't believe that it is now November 2nd! We have two months left of 2023 and I want to be as intentional as possible with every second. I have decided to implement "Thankful Thursday" each week during November, because I truly believe that an attitude of gratitude can change your life - and what better time than approaching Thanksgiving! For today's post, I'm going to share several items on my thankful list along with some goals for these 30 days.
I am so thankful for the cooler weather, change in season, and general vibe in the air! Summer will always have my heart, but these days remind me that everything has a season, and without the cold I certainly wouldn't appreciate the dog days of heat nearly as much.
I am thankful for my home, my jobs, my friends, and family. While those things might all sound cliche, I have worked incredibly hard to be at the exact point where I currently am, and I don't take any of it for granted.
I am extremely thankful for my health! I know that so many are currently suffering in this area, and it can be debilitating.
I am thankful for a renewed sense of mind as this holiday season approaches! This is a big one for me. Last year, I quite honestly did not care about the holidays at all. I was exhausted, my dad had recently passed away and it was the first season without him. I was navigating several transitions, unsure of some things, and just in need of a life break. Funny enough, God works in mysterious ways, and gave me a week to experience that during Christmas last year when all of my flights home got canceled. While it was strange to sit in my home, alone, on Christmas Eve and Christmas, I also savored that time. I was able to truly relax, rest, and just 'be'. This is something that we rarely are able to do in our world.
November Goals
Be present! - Don't dwell on the past and don't worry about the future. It's so easy to fall into either of those mind traps as the year comes to a close, but this year I was to savor each moment for what it is.
Appreciate the ordinary
View the holidays through the eyes of children
Give back but set and respect your own boundaries
Say no when necessary
Rest!
I'd love to hear your goals for the month! Are your weeks already booked with plans or are you able to take it nice and slow?!
