I am so excited to start sharing different aspects of my new home, which I frequently refer to as my own Barbie Dream House! There is so much involved in how my dreams of owning my house became a reality, and I’ll save that for another day. However, one of the blessings in disguise, was being able to take advantage of every trip back and forth to KY over the past year settling my dad’s estate. During each trip, my mom and I would break up the work with trips into some of our favorite boutiques, and it also helped that the majority of these weekends occurred during the spring. I love shopping during the spring, when everything feels fresh and new. Colors become brighter and lighter, hope is in the air, and the sunshine lasts longer.
I knew that I wanted to make this home very ME. That meant bright colors throughout, a mix of Nantucket meets Palm Beach decor, sprinkled with a lot of Lilly, grand millennial accents, and all things happy! Ironically I purchased many of my new items prior to buying, or even seeing, my house. The way it all came together is nothing short of a miracle God wink!
Without further ado, I’m going to highlight my living room today!
One thing that was very important to me throughout this process, was to support as many small businesses as possible. I certainly have plenty of items from bigger companies, but I have such a warm place in my heart for small businesses and I love having uniquely sourced goods!
The very first purchases I made were my coffee and side tables from Hibiscus House which is one of the sweetest custom furniture decor shops, based out of Alabama! They have the most amazing employees, (shoutout to Dorothy and Elizabeth!) who will text you and insure that all of your needs are met. Once I saw the pink and green tables, my Palm Beach vision began coming to fruition. My beautiful rug also came from their shop!
Choosing my couch was my most challenging decision, and my best friend and I spent countless hours one weekend looking at every possible website and color scheme. I knew that I wanted some variation of periwinkle, but for it to be a statement piece, while also durable and functional, thanks to my very furry housemate. We both agreed that this one from Society Social was the perfect sofa for me, so I designed and ordered it sight unseen, praying for the 16 weeks to pass quickly before delivery! If you have not heard of Society Social, they are essentially an exact vision of my style. They have partnered with Lilly Pulitzer in the past, and have designed areas of the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach. They also have a showroom nearby in Charlotte, NC!
Once I designed the couch, I wanted coordinating, but not identical chairs. I fell in love with this Pink Paradise Chair both given the style and the name! I also turned to Serena and Lilly for their coastal design and colors.
I purchased quite a few pieces that I'll highlight from a boutique in Louisville, KY called Gather. They have the most precious variety of treasures. One of my favorites, is a set of bookshelves. Now that all of the main furniture pieces were ordered, it was time for the smaller details! The most difficult part of this process was that I did not have any of these items in my actual possession until a little over one month ago, when I was actually able to put my vision together.
I mixed quite a few items that I previously owned, with several that I picked up along the way! Some of my favorite boutiques that are represented include Two Chicks and Company, Queen Bee, The Front Porch, Amanda Lindroth and Etsy of course! I customized my curtains from Spoonflower and I love that they are located just down the road in Durham, NC! Several pillows and artwork also came from the talented Katie Herman!
I could not be happier with how it all came together, over the course of the last year! It is so fun to visualize something, and then watch it become real. It's impossible to sit in this sunny room and not feel happy, which was one of my top goals for my entire home! 🥰
